Hello fellow datanistas!
What do Centaurs and Cyborgs have to do with Artificial Intelligence? I recently came across an article that explores this fascinating concept and introduces two types of users: Centaurs and Cyborgs. The article describes Centaurs as individuals who have a clear division of labor between themselves and AI, leveraging the strengths of each entity. On the other hand, Cyborgs deeply integrate machine and person, intertwining their efforts with AI.
As I read through the article, I couldn't help but relate to these two modes of working with AI tools. In fact, my blog posts are written in "Centaur" mode, where I write the content and delegate tasks like tag creation and social media post composition to GPT4. However, when it comes to modeling work, I switch to "Cyborg" mode, conceptualizing the models myself but relying on an LLM to write the code.
This framework not only provides a vocabulary to discuss the integration of ML tooling into biotech research but also challenges us to rethink the term "AI" as augmented intelligence rather than just artificial intelligence.
If you're intrigued by this concept of Centaurs and Cyborgs and want to see how it might relate to you, please check out my blog post on it as well as the original article. And don't forget to share it with others who might benefit from this insightful exploration of AI and human collaboration, which, at its core, is really “historical humans collaborating with current humans”.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this framework and how it resonates with your own experiences. Let's continue the conversation in the comments section!
Cheers,
Eric
